It's "raining" sleet outside today. A bit of an unusual day for Texas, but just perfect for tackling that "to do" list I've been compiling (and ignoring).
Amy and Emily are with my parents for a week, so the house is soooo quiet. Jeremy is out braving the weather (one of our goats had babies last night, of course). Keith and I are enjoying the warmth and quiet of Home.
One of my goals for this new year of 2009 (I still can't believe it's already here) is to reorganize my time and priorities. AND TO STOP PROCRASTINATING.
I've never been a big procrastinator, but with 3 little ones to care for and trying to organize, pack, and move, I've grown terribly forgetful and good at putting things off.
Here are a few things I'm planning to do to curtail my procastination habit:
- Make lists. I'm very motivated by lists.
- Be accountable. I'm about to post my "to do" list on this blog for all to see.
- Set a reasonable time goal in which to get things done. I enjoy working to beat the clock- or calendar. Most of the time. :o)
I bought a three-ring binder notebook for $4 at Walmart last week and I've already made out a pretty comprehensive "to do" list for this week. While the girls are gone I plan to completely sort and clean out rooms and closets, and finish packing up what we don't need on a daily basis (moving is SUCH fun, by the way). I won't bore you with all the projects I have on my plate this week, but here are a few things on my list:
- Can sweet potatoes. (I stocked up when they were on sale for 25-cents a pound and they've been sitting in my laundry room ever since.)
- Can pinto beans. (Freshly canned are SO much better than store-bought canned beans.)
- Finish up Melaleuca paper work. (Yet another thing I "haven't found time to do".)
Those are three things that I am absolutely going to accomplish today. The other "project" I'm tackling today is cleaning, organizing, and packing the girls' bedroom. Wish me luck. :o)
Here's a challenge: think of a few things you've been putting off doing but would like to mark off your "to do" list. Leave me a comment and let me know what they are and how you plan to bust procrastination today... or this week... or this year.
And now let's get busy!

8 Responses to "Procrastination Busters"This week my husband and I are working on cleaning up our guestroom (which functions as my husband's office, my ironing room, and the room where we put stuff when we're cleaning the rest of the house). Yeah, things have piled up, and my mom is coming to visit on Thursday. So it MUST be cleaned by then! I think my hubby was going to work on clearing out his papers and medical journals today while he's off and I'm working, and tonight I'll clean up the other stuff.
With Christmas over there are a ton of things to be cleaned up and packed up: Tree, decorations, wrapping paper, etc. I like to "spring clean" in Jan. it makes me feel like I'm starting off a New Year clean and refreshed. So when I woke up this morning with a terrible upset stomach it set me off track some, but I plan on getting on track first thing in the morning.
Yeah! You've just inspired me to file some papers that have been sitting my desk for too long.
Jessica: I know what you mean... January is a great time to shift things back into 'normal' gear for the new year. There's always lots to do to catch up after Christmas!
Hope you're feling better soon... take care of yourself and those precious little girls! ~Kristy
Great post!!! I'm definitely suffering from the Procrastination Bug as well, and am happy for your motivating post. Your idea of a binder is right up my alley. I keep a notebook for the different areas of my life that need organizing, and it is SO helpful - but only when I utilize it. So I hope to do better with that.
I absolutely NEED to get into each of my 3 children's rooms and sort through every article of clothing that they don't need and put it all in the car and actually DRIVE it to the Salvation Army. I can't tell you how many bags sit in our garage waiting to send to goodwill for months. No more!
I love to cull out outgrown clothing and then compile a list of what everyone needs for the next season. It won't be too long before the spring clothes are out.
Step: Keeping our children's clothing organized is one of my biggest challenges! They are always out growing and growing into new sizes... and then there's the dilema of deciding what to keep and what to save... and finding a place to store the items I want to hang onto. It keeps me on my toes to say the least! ~Kristy
I too am very motivated by lists. I think writing things down de-clutters my brain.
I like your idea of being accountable to someone else, so here goes: 1)I need to re-work my childrens daily chore/activiy lists. 2)I need to go through my childrens outgrown clothing and toys. 3)I need to list some items on Ebay.
And I'm open to ANY suggestions on giving my blog a new look. Yours always looks nice, so maybe you could share some of your secrets:)
