Hi there, this is Kristy! Thanks for stopping by my cottage on the 'net. If it looks a little unkept around here, it's because my sweet family of 5 just moved to a country cottage (a real one, that is) and this blog is taking a rest for a while.

I left the door unlocked just for you, so don't be afraid to take a peek around and enjoy yourself... the cookies and milk on the kitchen table are fresh, so help yourself. :o) Oh, and be sure to check out my "topics" and dig into the archives for even more goodies.

Meanwhile, Jeremy and I will be out gardening, canning veggies, planting flowers, wrangling goats and chickens, and otherwise making sense of this crazy (wonderful) thing called country life.

(Oh, and if you hear a bump in the other room, it's just me... unpacking boxes.)

Enjoy your stay!

P.S. I promise to update our family picture someday... maybe soon.

Homemaker's Challenge- Day 4

It's cold and raining again today- yucky weather if you have to be out in it, but COZY, COZY, COZY if you're inside a warm little house! The girls slept in this morning so I had plenty of time to get my morning duties accomplished before they woke up. Crystal at Biblical Womanhood suggests that you list 5 things you want to get accomplished every morning- here are the things I try to accomplish every morning and how I got them done today:

1) Devotions~ This morning I read 4 chapters in Proverbs and prayed for wisdom, especially in training and guiding our children. I also chose Proverbs 10:16 to meditate on today: "A gracious woman retaineth honor."

2) Breakfast~ We enjoyed Homemade Flax Seed Breakfast Muffins with juice and coffee this morning. I used mashed bananas instead of chopped apples and they were delish!!

3) Start or plan lunch~ While the girls were still sleeping I started a vegetable stew in the Dutch oven with carrots, potatoes, green beans, brown rice, onions, a clove of garlic and 4 cubes of beef boulion. I also thawed some venison to brown and add to the stew once the veggies are tender. Mmmm, it smells savory!

4) Dress girls & make beds~ I changed and dressed Emily while Amy finished her muffins, then picked out Amy's clothes (she dressed herself) and fixed her hair. Jeremy actually made our bed this morning (I'm spoiled!) while I dressed. I need to change Emily's sheets (she's had a cold) and remind Amy to make her bed after her school work is done.

5) Amy's school work~ First we reviewed her letter flash cards with her saying the name of the letter and the sound. Then she did 2 pages in her Abeka Readiness Skills book; she's now working on 2 pages in her Abeka ABC-123 book.

So far, so good! When Jeremy comes home for lunch he's bringing a can of white paint for me to touch up the bead board in the girls' bath room. Today's challenge is to clean both bathrooms... I'll post pics of my progress later.

Update: bedtime

Busy day! I cleaned the master bathroom (aka The Powder Room) before lunch... here are 2 pictures. It didn't take much, just the usual scrubbing, wiping down, and straightening towels, etc.

Everyone enjoyed the veggie & venison soup for lunch... it was quite filling on a wet winter day. After lunch the girls took their naps and I headed for the "Ducky" bathroom, as we call the main bath. It took a little more effort since it was pretty cluttered; in additional to the usual cleaning I also repainted the white bead board. It turned out pristine and pretty... I was quite pleased with myself!

The overcast day made for good napping and the girls slept and slept... I was able to catch up on some of my website stuff and write a few emails. After the girls woke we all got ready for church, ate a quick supper, and headed for Wednesday night service. Since we didn't get to have song and story time after lunch today, I read three books to Amy and Emily once they had their jammies on... then they brushed their teeth, took their herbal medicine for their colds, and headed off to bed. Our routine 8:30 bedtime is way off since we had revival last week and had company (my parents and sister)... I'm about drooping with fatigue so it's off to bed for me too. It was an enjoyable day... I look forward to tomorrow.
